We are looking for an East Coast Regional Health, Environmental & Safety Manager. This position is responsible to provide day to day EHS support to branch leadership and operating teams within a designated Region.  Support includes coaching, teaching, and training field personnel on safe operating behaviors and the design, development and implementation of safety and risk control programs.  Functions as a subject matter expert and consultant to help our business partners build sustainable loss improvement processes within their organizations that they will own and operate. The position will report to the Director of Safety and will directly support the Regional Managers of the individual locations.

 

Job Summary:

 

Oversee the development, implementation and monitoring of the company’s safety programs, standards and protocols to reduce potential environmental incidents and employee injury. Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with local management, safety committees and employee input to develop, prepare, and implement safety policies and procedures.
  • Visit and walk the jobsites on a regular basis to establish EHS presence and provide support.
  • Perform field safety observations during each visit.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Safety.
  • Work with the Branch Leadership and Field Teams to ensure work practices are understood and followed.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Safety and local management on safety activities and initiatives.
  • Assists in compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes.
  • Authority to take immediate corrective actions regarding health and safety matters.
  • Ensures completion of required OSHA recordkeeping and reporting.
  • Provides input and assist in oversight of the Workers Compensation Case Management and Return to Work programs.
  • Provides technical and administrative support to the safety committee.
  • Promotes the company’s vision and values, Standards of Operation and Stop Work Authority.
  • Identifies opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, incidents.
  • Conducts employee training on applicable safety programs.
  • Periodic reviews safety training and recommends revisions, improvements, and updates.
  • Conducts safety inspections and audits to assess partner and employee compliance with safety regulations.
  • Conduct EHS audits and assessments of on-going operations to measure compliance with regulatory requirements and conformance to Sperber Landscape Companies policies and procedures
  • Creates company communications, i.e., Safety Alerts, safety notices and announcements.
  • Assists as needed with injury and incident data analysis.
  • Performs other related health and safety duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Skills and Abilities

  • Wide-ranging knowledge of current company safety policies, applicable state, federal and local health and safety regulation includes extensive knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding of adult learning methods and ability to conduct trainings.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Possess and utilizes good interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate with customers, employees, and managers
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Must be able to read and write English.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License with a driving record acceptable to the company's insurance carrier.

 

Education and Experience

Candidate will have at least one of the following qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of Health, Safety & Environmental or relevant landscape maintenance/horticulture experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Health and Safety, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health, or related field desirable or;

 

  • Possess a two-year degree in engineering, construction, or safety from an accredited or industry recognized technical school, plus a minimum of two years of direct safety oversight experience.
